A pleasant surprise in Norway was walking to a large yellow building on the hill in the center of Oslo. The statue is what first grabbed my attention.
The statue is King Karl Johan XIV King of Sweden and Karl Johan III, King of Norway (1763-1844).
Yeah, one man was king of both countries with different titles of royalty.

I did not know this was a palace until I saw the guard at the top of the hill in a small guardhouse.

All of a sudden several Royal Guardsmen, Hans Majestet Kongens Garde, came out of a small house nearby. I found myself a spectator to the Norwegian changing of the Royal Palace guards.
