East Side Gallery is the 1.3 kilometer remaining section of the Berlin Wall covered with about 105 murals by artists from around the world.
One end of the Berlin Wall at East Side Gallery is directly across from the Ostbahnhof train station. The other end of the wall is located at Oberbaum Bridge 1.3 km away.
Near the Ostbahnhof side is YAMM, some kind of artists cooperative, reggae music spot with small cafes and sports areas. This is a popular place for night parties.
YAAM African-Caribbean social and artist park with music and drink and sports.
YAAM Must Survive in Berlin City
I tagged on for the last few minutes of an English language tour to hear YAAM is constantly facing eviction hearings. The place has basketball courts, skateboard ramp, a large sand covered beach environment beside the River Spree and is a location where blacks and whites come together, much of the common ground likely being a fan of reggae music and sports.
YAAM soccer field and Kids Corner.

Test the Rest
‘He who wants the world to remain as it is doesn’t want it to remain at all’ – Erich Fried.
This is an intense mural showing the city of Berlin and the wall with a rainbow flow of fluid from one pipe on top of the wall and blood from another outlet within the wall.
This mural is one of my favorites.
The intricate design makes it difficult to distinguish graffiti on the mural from the original mural.
In contrast are graffiti covered murals like this one.
“Many small people who in many small places do many small things that can alter the face of the world.”
There is a small souvenir shop at the Oberbaumbrucke bridge.
Tourist Shop at Berlin Wall East Side Gallery.
Some of the mural spaces are quite large.
