Hotel Loyalty 2013-Q1 promotions Hyatt Gold Passport Hyatt Hotels

Hyatt Stay Certificates for cheaper rates

Hyatt Stay Certificates are fixed-price vouchers for hotel nights. There are seven hotel categories of Hyatt Stay Certificates at different price points. Each Hyatt brand hotel is listed under these seven categories. The Hyatt Stay Certificate covers hotel rate and taxes, however, resort fees may be an additional cost when using certificates for your stay.

Hyatt Gold Passport recently raised the price of some of these certificates and introduced a new highest level ‘ULTIMATE’ Stay certificate.

Hyatt Stay Certificate reservations need to be made by phone. The Hyatt Gold Passport member can make a reservation by phone, order the stay certificate and present the Stay Certificate to the hotel at the time of check-in. Or the member can pre-order certificates and use them as needed. Hyatt Stay Certificates do not expire.

Hyatt Stay Certificate Hotel Categories

  • Classic $109.00
  • Choice $152.22
  • Premier $188.89
  • Elite $260.00
  • Inspire $325.55
  • Exclusive $394.44
  • Ultimate $461.11

Hyatt Stay Certificates are available for 1, 2, 3 or 5 nights. Multiple Stay Certificates may be combined for an extended hotel stay.

Loyalty Traveler Analysis

There are times when a Hyatt Stay Certificate will cost significantly less than the prevailing rate for a hotel.

The chart shows that a hotel has an entry-level Hyatt Stay Certificate category for the minimum hotel category certificate accepted. Members can always use a higher category Stay certificate, but that is wasting money.

For example, Andaz Napa has Hyatt Stay Certificate ‘Elite’ category as its entry-level at $260.00 per night. You can also redeem Inspire, Exclusive or Ultimate Stay Certificates for a free night at Andaz Napa.

But why would you?

Hyatt Stay Certificates New York

Odd category pricing for New York shows Hyatt Place New York Midtown South requiring an ‘Exclusive’ Stay Certificate at $394.44 while Andaz Wall Street can be had for an ‘Elite’ Stay Certificate at $260.00 per night.

February 12, 2013 rates:

Andaz Wall Street – Double = $373.57 after tax (Nonrefundable Advance Purchase rate = $322.50). Hyatt Stay Elite Certificate = $260.00 (includes tax). Save $113.57 per night with Hyatt Stay Certificate.

Hyatt Place New York/Midtown South – King (no Sofabed) = $292.53 after tax (Nonrefundable Advance Purchase rate = $251.00). Hyatt Stay Exclusive  Certificate = $394.44 (includes tax). Hyatt Stay Certificate is $102 per night more than paying published room rate.

These two hotels show the value of Hyatt Stay Certificates. Sometimes they discount the nightly rate significantly and other times the Stay Certificates cost more than the published room rate.

Park Hyatt Vendome Paris is one of the few Hyatt hotel properties that do not accept Hyatt Stay Certificates. Hyatt Regency Paris Madeleine only accepts the top category ‘Ultimate’ Stay Certificate.

Hyatt Regency Madeleine, Paris May 13-17, 2013 four nights = 1,292 EUR on nonrefundable advance purchase rate. That converts to $1,726.65 today.

Buying four nights of Ultimate Stay Certificates = $1,844.44. Using Hyatt Stay Certificate for this stay will cost $118 more than paying the nonrefundable rate, however the Hyatt Stay Certificate will likely have more flexible cancellation policy and might be worth the added expense.

Or, if your stay were planned for July 1-5, 2013 the published rates rise to 450.50 EUR per night (USD $601.88).  For these dates the Hyatt Stay ‘Ultimate’ Certificate saves $150 per night on the published nonrefundable room rate.

Follow-up Post: Finding Hyatt Stay Certificate Availability Online. Apparently I didn’t give sufficient details in this post and followed up with another post to show how to find Hyatt Stay Certificate availability online and disclose more of the impact of using a Hyatt Stay Certificate compared to a paid stay. Also showed a couple of big savings in California at $100 to $150 per night using the lowest priced Hyatt Stay Certificates at the $109 Classic level.

Related Post: for a historical comparison take a look at my Jan 2011 post on Hyatt STay Certificates when there were only five hotel categories and Hyatt Regency Madeleine was available for a $319 Inspire level Hyatt Stay Certificate. http://loyaltytraveler.boardingarea.com/2011/01/08/hyatt-stay-and-weekend-prepaid-certificates/

If a standard room is available can I use a cert or are there limits on the number of std rooms available for a cert?

Do certificate stays count toward status?

  • Scott C January 14, 2013

do you know if you can use suite certificates on a stay booked with these certificates? IE does buying these and using them count as a paid stay which is the requirement for using a suite certificate.

  • Ric Garrido January 14, 2013

@Paul – Hyatt Stay Certificates are capacity controlled. You can check availability by typing in a code into the Special Offer Code box on the reservations page.

    Classic code: HSCLN1
    Choice code: HSCHN1
    Premier code: HSPRN1
    Elite code: HSELN1
    Inspire code: HSINN1
    Exclusive code: HSXLN1
    Ultimate code: HSULN1

@CaroleZoom – Hyatt Stay Certificates count like award stays and do not earn elite credit.

@Scott C. – Hyatt Stay Certificate stays are not eligible stays for suite upgrade certificates.

Although you can save money using a stay certificate, it should be noted that you do not get Hyatt points for the value of the certificate as you would if you simply paid for the room.

from Q$A, you do get points from redeeming certificate. But I am not sure about stay credit.

Do I receive Hyatt Gold Passport points when I redeem Hyatt Certificates and Gift Cards?
Yes, any payment or redemption made with a Hyatt Gift Card or Certificate for goods or services that would otherwise be eligible for Hyatt Gold Passport rewards are eligible for the same rewards. The person using the card or certificate must be a member of Hyatt Gold Passport.

I bought a 3 nt Elite once and later only needed 2 nights. They do let you send it back in to exchange. You send it to their Marion, IL reservation center and there is no exchange fee.
