Hotel Loyalty 2012-Q3 Promotions Radisson Rewards

Triple points on Radisson B&B package can be good value rate

Club Carlson has a B&B package rate at Radisson and Radisson Blu Hotels for two or four people. This package offers 2,000 bonus points per stay + Triple Goldpoints (60 points/$1).

Radisson B&B rates for this special rate offer are higher than other rates available. Some Radisson hotels provide inexpensive bonus points with this offer. For other Radisson hotels this deal should be avoided.

My general view is take this offer if the additional points earned with the 2K bonus and 60 points per dollar are earned at a rate less than $5 per 1,000 points. You can get $5 per 1,000 points redemption value easily with Points + Cash award rates at Carlson Rezidor Hotels, and probably $8 per 1,000 points or better.

Radisson Bed & Breakfast Package

  • Available for stays through December 31, 2012.
  • Earn triple points for the B&B stay. Club Carlson base points = 20 points/$1. Triple points = 60 points/$1 earning rate.
  • Earn 2,000 bonus points per stay.
  • Rate includes breakfast coupons for two (or four) each day at hotel restaurant or room service. Valid for buffet or one entrée and two beverages.

Loyalty Traveler Rate Analysis

Looking at hotels in Los Angeles showed this offer to be a reasonable deal at some hotels and a poor value at other hotels where the B&B package rate was much higher than other rate options.

The breakfast coupon is valid for one entrée or buffet and two beverages. This is an unambiguous value since you know you can order what you like. Full breakfast for two is a $25 to $50 value at most Radisson hotels.

Tuesday, Sep 18 to Thursday, Sep 20

  • 2 adults + 2 children.
  • $216.07 after tax Lowest Nightly Rate ($92.80) for Two Doubles + SofaBed (6pm Day of Arrival with no penalty) includes breakfast and WiFi.
  • $270.09 B&B Package. The only real difference in amenities for the B&B Package are the bonus points.

Are the extra points worth spending an extra $54?

  • B&B Room Rate = $241.00 ($120.50 x 2 nights)
  • $241 in hotel spend earns 14,460 points (60 points/$1).
  • B&B rate earns 2,000 bonus points per stay.
  • Club Carlson online booking earns 1,000 bonus points per stay.
  • Total 17,460 points for $270.09 in two night hotel spend.

The lowest rate at $96.40 earns far fewer points.

  • Lowest Rate = $192.80 room rate.
  • $192.80 room rate earns 3,856 points (20 points/$1).
  • Club Carlson online booking earns 1,000 bonus points per stay.
  • Total 4,856 points for $216.07 in two night hotel spend.

Elite bonus points are extra and make this offer slightly more favorable for elite members earning bonus points for additional hotel spend on B&B Package rate.

The B&B Package Rate provides breakfast for two adults and two children while also earning an additional 12,604 points, all for $54.02.

The B&B rate provides breakfast for a family of four or even four adults and also allows you to earn 12,600 points at the rate of $4.29 per 1,000 points.

Club Carlson sells points for $7 per 1,000 points.

This Radisson B&B rate and other Club Carlson rates offering 5,000 or 10,000 bonus points are sometimes a cheaper way to buy points if you need them for hotel award stays than buying points directly from Club Carlson.

The next rate analysis shows a less favorable value for the B&B rate.

King Bed Standard Room

  • $95.20 AAA rate (6pm Day of Arrival cancellation)
  • $109.65 Advance Purchase Prepaid, 100% Cancellation Penalty
  • $119.00 Best Available (6pm Day of Arrival cancellation)
  • $153.00 B&B for 2 Package Rate with 3x points + 2,000 points.

Points earned per room rate after tax:

  • 1,904 points for $110.02 AAA rate
  • 2,193 points for $126.71 AP rate.
  • 2,380 points for $137.53 BAR rate.
  • 11,180 points for $176.82 B&B rate.

B&B rate earns an additional 9,276 Club Carlson points for $66.80 more than the AAA rate with the same cancellation policies. Club Carlson members can buy 9,000 points for $63, so you had better be sure you are staying for breakfast to make this rate worthwhile.

The B&B for 2 rate is not as good a value for the Radisson LAX compared to the previous example for the Disneyland area hotel. The B&B for 4 rate is $177 per night, an additional $24 when needing four breakfast coupons. This is even lesser value when the two extra guests are your two children.

Loyalty Traveler Conclusion

Radisson B&B rate offers a generous bounty of bonus points. Triple points is good earning with any hotel program including Club Carlson. The 2,000  points for booking the B&B rate is another bonus, along with the standard 1,000 points online booking bonus for Club Carlson members.  The Radisson B&B offer is a potential bonanza of points.

The Radisson B&B rate looks to be a decent deal if you use the breakfast coupons. This offer might still be a good deal just for the triple points at some hotels even if you will not need all the breakfast coupons.

Shop wisely.
