Be ready May 15

The real new news here is the 44,000 bonus points for the Country Inn and Park Inn promotions are limited to the first 35,000 and 20,000 registrants. After that many registrants the bonus is only 15,000 points. Supposedly these offers are open to Club Carlson members worldwide. We will know soon enough when the full terms and conditions are released next week. Here are terms I have confirmed with Club Carlson.

  • Club Carlson members can register for each brand promotion and earn all three bonuses.
  • Reservations made prior to the promotion launch for stays during the May-July promotion period are eligible for the bonus points.   Update 5/18: Turns out that I was burned with this piece of information. Well actually, I should say some of my readers were screwed with this bad piece of information since I did not have an existing reservation prior to promotion registration. Let me explain that my contact was a PR person for the firm representing Club Carlson who I thought was giving me direct and accurate information from Heather Passe, VP of loyalty programs (or someone with direct knowledge of the promotion terms and conditions). I learned a lesson from this experience. The disappointing aspect of this is there was also a Facebook update from a Club Carlson representative stating pre-existing reservations would count for the Big Night Giveaway promotion. The Facebook data was later removed and there has been no official statement from Club Carlson pointing out their mistakes. This lack of a response is creating some bad press for Club Carlson:  Mommy Points – Club Carlson not honoring some information posted about “Big Night Giveaway” (May 17) and Deals We Like – Club Carlson Big Night Giveaway Promotion Updates (May 17)
  • Points + Cash stays are eligible for promotion bonuses.

A good time to Visit Fresno, California

And a friendly reminder from my FlyerTalk friend JumpDogJump that Fresno, California has all three Carlson hotel brands with a Radisson, Country Inn and Park Inn.

Fresno may be one of the better spots for a “triple dip” for the upcoming promotion – The Radisson Downtown ($103) Park Inn – formerly Four Points – ($93) and aforementioned Country Inn ($54) are each just off Highway 41 and about 5 miles apart from one to the next.

Very convenient for visitors from So. Cal. on their way to Yosemite.

Looks like a good reason to head east for a summer road trip to Fresno and some Carlson Hotels while checking out Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. Club Carlson sure beats those $500 room rates at Ahwahnee Lodge, Yosemite.

  1. Anymore news on how the booking has to be made? I know I have a work stay coming up at a Park Inn but it has to be booked through our work travel portal. Can I still get the points that way?

  2. @Adam – no specific details like that released yet.

Do you normally earn Club Carlson points for stays booked through your work travel portal?

If you normally get points, then a good chance you will get points for the promotion.

  3. I’ve heard that you must be present at check-out to earn the points. Is that true?

  4. Ric,

Thanks for the great round up on the Carlson offers! Definitely will try to jump in on the Radisson and Country Inn offers.

As to Priority Club have you not been checking Frequent Flyer Bonuses of late? The IHG promo was posted on the FFB blog last week

  5. During the promotions they had in the fall, I stayed at the Scaumburg Illinois Park Inn, but it is no longer listed on the Park Inn website, so I don’t know if you can do a triple dip in Chicago?

  6. @Patrick – I must confess that I am behind in checking http://www.FrequentFlyerBonuses.com the past couple weeks.

You Canadians take first place once again. Now I don’t feel so special. The promotion is probably posted on FlyerTalk too if I checked more carefully.

@Jerry – AAA rates should certainly qualify once again.

  7. Hey Ric, No worries, we are all so busy! I wish I had more time to read all the blogs and websites but alas too much work prohibits that wish!

I did see someone post it to Flyertalk afterwards.

  8. I believe I recall terms requiring that the reservation must be made after you register for the stay to qualify for the bonus points promotion. If so, do not make your reservations now in the hope of earning the bonus!

  9. @Colin – I was given the opportunity to ask specific questions about the Big Night Giveaway with the Club Carlson people yesterday.

I specifically asked whether hotel stays booked now, before the May 15 start of the promotions, count for the bonus.

The answer was YES. You can book hotel stays now for May 15-July 15 stays and they will count for the bonus points.

Also Points + Cash stays will count as an eligible stay for the promotion.

  10. Yay and Thanks! Please be aware that if you do a Best Rate Guarantee with CC and are sucessful, that they are the only one in the industry to my knowledge that will assess you a $25 cancel fee should you wish to cancel prior to arrival. Please see their terms and conditions conditions concerning this issue.

  11. I see that the stay has to be between May 15 and July 15. Question, does a check-in on July 15 and check out on July 16 (a 1 night stay) count?

So, I guess I’m asking is it check in by July 15, or check out by July 15?

  12. Promotion is up. T&Cs contain this:

Promotion is not valid on existing reservations.

Ric, could you check with your CC contacts to confirm if that is a mistake? They earlier last week confirmed on FB that existing reservations would count, but removed that statement later.

@Ali – need to check out July 15 latest. From T&Cs:

Guest must check in for the Qualifying Stay on or after May 15, 2012 and check out must be completed no later than July 15, 2012 (“Promotion Period”).

  13. That was the first detail I noticed too. ONLY for Country Inn though. In transit today for a gig in Chicago.

  14. @Oliver I was just looking again at T&C and I see you are correct. All I can say is I specifically provided an example for my question regarding existing reservations and I received an email answer stating yes they are eligible.

This is precisely why terms should be defined before the start date of a bonus offer.

I hope this all works out to accept existing reservations.

What makes me mad is I was approached by a Club Carlson representative to provide additional details on the offer and it looks like I was given wrong information.

Might take me a day or two to get more info.

I am hanging With Marriott folks for next three days in Chicago.

  15. But if your loved one or a kid within your home has all of the sudden started to snore night after night for any extremely extended time period, there is a immediate have to be concerned and worried. Not only are there health dangers for the kid or the adult who habitually snores, but you’ll find extra problems to contend with in terms of youngsters that snore.

  16. Great goods from you, man. I’ve understand your stuff previous to and you are just extremely magnificent. I really like what you have acquired here, certainly like what you’re stating and the way in which you say it. You make it enjoyable and you still care for to keep it wise. I cant wait to read far more from you. This is really a tremendous website.
