Park Inn Promotion for 15,000 points with a one night stay

Club Carlson has another offer for 15,000 points for staying at a Park Inn in the U.S. or Canada.

[Update: Nov 3, 2011 – Park Inn 15,000 bonus points promotion registration page.

Loyalty Traveler Park Inn promotion post Nov 3.]

As travelers prepare themselves for the busy holiday season, Park Inn by Radisson is making travel more affordable with two new offers. Members of its hotel rewards program, Club Carlson, can stay one night from October 23, 2011 to December 15, 2011 at a Park Inn by Radisson and automatically receive 15,000 Gold Points®, equivalent to a free one night at many Carlson properties. Travelers who are not yet Club Carlson members can join the loyalty program for free during any stay at a Carlson hotel or resort, or by visiting http://www.clubcarlson.com/. Park Inn by Radisson is also offering a separate promotion open to all guests who book two consecutive nights, now through January 20, 2012 where they will receive 10% off.

Park Inn by Radisson is Carlson’s bright, bold and fresh mid-market brand with 10 hotels and growing in North America and 118 hotels throughout the world. The brand provides affordable accommodations that are efficient, uncomplicated, practical and comfortable. Park Inn by Radisson has a growing presence across the U.S., with four new hotel openings in 2011 so far, affording travelers an opportunity at new savings for the heavy travel season.

November 9 Notice to Loyalty Traveler readers: This post originally went up before the Club Carlson promotion pages had been posted. Some of the information originally included here was incorrect or changed. This post was reworked November 9 to make it easier to read and all the strikeout portions were relocated to the bottom of the post.

[UPDATE -  NOVEMBER 7: Loyalty Traveler has a newer post on this offer called Radisson 50,000 Points Promotion Revisited and Clarified Nov 10-Dec 30 written after meeting with Carlson Hotels managers to discuss the details of this offer. There is some good information here, but this post is a mess with strikeouts.]

[Promotion webpage went up a couple hours after this post]

There is confusion over this promotion as to whether the first 50,000 to register or the first 50,000 members to stay at a Radisson qualify for 50,000 points. I think the offer means the first 50,000 guests who register for the offer and stay at a Radisson beginning Thursday night, Nov 10 will earn 50,000 points. After those 50,000 guests, all other registered members will earn 15,000 bonus points.

[Update Friday, Nov 4: Looks like I will get an opportunity to speak with the Club Carlson representative on Monday, Nov 7. Please leave any questions you might have regarding this promotion in the comments section and I will ask for clarification. Thanks.]

[Update Nov 3: Still confused whether first 50,000 to register are the only members eligible for 50,000 points or if the first 50,000 to register and stay earn 50,000 points. The promotion seems to suggest the first outcome. This post is littered with strikeouts. The problem I see is Club Carlson members need to be told if they are one of the first 50,000 registrants to know whether the stay will earn 50,000 points or 15,000 points. The second problem I see is the potential for a large number of registrants in the first 50,000 to not stay at a Radisson Hotel during the promotion period and exclude guests who do stay at a Radisson down to 15,000 points for the stay solely due to not being in the first 50,000 to register for the offer.]

Loyalty Traveler’s pet peeve

The Big Night Giveaway promotion does not have a registration page uploaded yet. [update Nov 3: this promotion webpage posted a couple hours after this post.]

My pet peeve with hotel promotions is a press release of an offer requiring loyalty members to register prior to posting a registration page for the offer.

I received notice of this Big Night Giveaway offer this morning and emailed the Club Carlson PR representative back stating I will not write about the offer until a registration page is available for members. After seeing this offer posted on Mommy Points and One Mile at a Time, I figured I might as well write up the offer today.

You might want to book a reservation now for a Radisson Hotel to lock in a good rate, but make sure it can be cancelled in case the promotion terms require booking after promotion registration.

[Update: T&C state this offer is not valid on existing reservations, so you need to wait and book a stay after registration.]

Appreciate the insightful analysis. One question – must the stay be in a Radisson or will any Carlson hotel satisfy the stay requirement?

  • Katherine November 2, 2011

    http://www.radissonbignightgiveaway.com

You must register before making the reservation. It is also not combinable with packages. It says that the first 50,000 people to complete their registration will be awarded the 50,000 points after their stay. If is not eligible for packages – I do not know if the includes the breakfast package, but right one, I am planning on the basic package.

  • hobo13 November 2, 2011

I interpret it differently — first 50k to register are eligible for the 50k bonus. They have to complete the stay to get it. It would be great if you could get clarification on this, however.

As for getting scooped by other blogs: don’t worry, we know who the real hotel expert is, and we know where to get real analysis. NOBODY does a better job of breaking down hotel points than you! Some other bloggers just seem to go RAH RAH at every opportunity without thinking critically.

  • hobo13 November 2, 2011

This sentence from their T&C (as posted on Milepoint) seems to confirm my interpretation:

The first 50,000 guests who complete the Promotion Registration will receive 50,000 Bonus Gold Points after the completion of the Qualifying Stay.

  • Susan November 2, 2011

So unclear the terms & conditions. I needed a night on 11/20 so booked it and hope I can 1. register 2. it qualifies. Any clarity you get back is much appreciated!

  • chris November 3, 2011

“Appreciate the insightful analysis. One question – must the stay be in a Radisson or will any Carlson hotel satisfy the stay requirement?”
Also would like to know this since there is no convenient Radisson nearby my location.

  • Ric Garrido November 3, 2011

@hobo13 – In the light of a new day I agree that the terms indicate the first 50,000 registrants are eligible for 50,000 points.

Here is the problem I see with that procedure. We know people will sign up for everything. So what if 20,000 people are in the initial 50,000 to sign up and never stay at a Radisson during the promotion?

That means 20,000 people who signed up and stayed at a Radisson are only going to get 15,000 points.

That is a stupid way to run the promotion. Unless you don’t want to really pay out 50,000 points to 50,000 people. I [Update Nov 7 – I won’t delete what I said, but I did a strikeout. That statement was a little over the top.]

I hope we get a number when we register to let us know if we are in the first 50,000 members.

  • hobo13 November 3, 2011

Ric — you are spot on. I strongly expect that Radisson is expecting some ‘breakage’ on this promotion.

Honestly, I don’t really mind. I think it is better to tell people ‘yes, you’ll qualify for the 50k’ or ‘no, you’ll only qualify for the 15k’ then to let people sign-up and wonder. This is a big-time improvement over how COdbaUA runs promotion now-a-days — see ‘Month of Miles’ where nobody has a clue if they are indeed eligible!

  • Kevin November 3, 2011

Compared to other programs Club Carlson always seems to have something unclear or unusual about their promotions.

  • Ric Garrido November 4, 2011

Update Friday, Nov 4: Looks like I will get an opportunity to speak with the Club Carlson representative on Monday, Nov 7.

Please leave any questions you might have regarding this promotion in the comments section and I will ask for clarification.

    Thanks.

  • Charlie November 4, 2011

Will advance purchase offer stay qualifies for the big night promotion? In their website, the view detail section of advance purchase, it states it may not be combined with any other promotion.
    Thanks

  • Alan November 4, 2011

I am also curious about the advance purchase as well. there will be some stays that I need in Dec. this is a good promotion if it plays out! Thanks.

  • Steve November 6, 2011

Ric… if you do speak to a Club Carlson representative, ask him/her how is it that these common sense ambiguities weren’t addressed in the design of the promo, by all of their “highly qualified” execs from management to advertising…

  • Mike November 6, 2011

Would a stay booked using the Family and Friends rate work? F&F state “can not be combined with any other promo” but this promo appears to work with any stay that would earn points (or does f&f not earn points)? How about a stay that is part of a package (room and a show, for example)?

  • melissAA November 6, 2011

Ric – If I book using a AAA rate, does this disqualify me for the promo (seems like it from the t&c but could you confirm?) “Promotion may not be used in conjunction with any other package, promotion, group or convention rate, or any other discounted rate.”

I have registered myself for both 50,000 gold points for raddison Big Night Giveaway promotion and 9000 points for a award stay at any club carlson hotel. My question is if I book a Radisson hotel and stay between dec-23 to dec-30. Will I get both 50,000 + 9,000 total of 59,000 points. As both the promotions are different and both will be fulfilled with one stay at a Radisson hotel. Please let me know if I am wrong and how it works.

  • Ric Garrido December 9, 2011

@Mallik – You will get 50,000 points for a Radisson stay, but the 9,000 points requires a reward stay using points. These need to be two different stays or you can pay one night to earn the 50,000 points and stay a second night at the hotel using points (if you already have the points) and get a 9,000 points rebate.

  • Mallik December 10, 2011

Thanks for your quick response. I have booked a 2 night stay in a Raddison hotel using club carlson points. So if I understand you correctly for that stay I will be getting only 50,000 points promoted by raddison not the 9000 points for a award stay. Please let me know.

  • Ric Garrido December 11, 2011

@Mallik – Paid stay or Cash & Points stay at Radisson = 50,000 points.

Award stay using all points = 9,000 bonus points.
