Searching the Hilton Hotels sites for some interesting promotion news and finding none led me to look at pages of new hotels across the ten Hilton chain hotel brands. Hilton Worldwide has 3,750 hotels in 84 countries. Hilton Worldwide is a huge hotel chain. InterContinental Hotels Group has more hotels and Marriott is slightly smaller than Hilton in hotel number.
The only other larger hotel chains by number of hotels are Wyndham, Choice, Best Western and Accor. None of these larger chains has anything similar in proportion to Hilton for hotels in the upscale and higher market segments. Hilton reached 600,000 hotel rooms in the USA in 2010. There are 29 million HHonors members. About Hilton Worldwide.
Hilton brands hotel construction currently is 72% outside the U.S.
The Hilton Worldwide hotel chain with 3,750 hotels is adding new hotels around the globe every week.
Loyalty Traveler looks at some of the 2011 additions to the HHonors family. The size and geographic scope of Hilton Worldwide is apparent in this survey of the new Hilton brand hotels in 2011.
USA
Most full-service hotels being opened by Hilton Worldwide are located outside of the US. New York City is the one area where new hotel construction and rebranding has continued.

China has six new Hilton Hotels for 2011.
The one that catches my eye is the Hilton Hangzhou Qiandao Lake. This looks to be a picturesque lake environment about four hours south of Shanghai. The hotel is so new that TripAdvisor.com does not even have an English language hotel review for this property ranked at #7 for the location. Sheraton Qiandao Lake Resort is a category 3 SPG hotel ranked #2 on TripAdvisor today.

I would love to spend a month and see some of the resort locations like Qingdao Lake and Sanya where many western hotel brands have built upper upscale and luxury hotels in the past decade. Any tourist board or hotel chain want to sponsor a Loyalty Traveler trip? I am sure I would come up with some good stories to tell on my first trip traveling in China.
Europe
Europe is a travel market where brand hotels still have potential for much larger growth. Marriott picked up the entire AC Hotels chain in Spain as its new brand joining Marriott Rewards in November 2011 with nearly 100 existing hotels already in place. There is a much larger share of independent hotels operating in Europe compared to the U.S. where hotel brands rule. There are only a few new hotels in the Hilton brand in European countries for 2011.

Hilton Bodrum Turkbuku Resort & Spa, Turkbuku, Turkey is an all-inclusive resort opened June 13, 2011. The HHonors hotel category is listed as “Distinctive Rewards” which is used for all-inclusive properties, but the hotel is not listed on the all-inclusive resorts reward page. My sample booking showed 60,000 points per night.

India is one of the so-called BRIC countries where most of the global hotel development is currently targeted to reach emerging travel markets in the countries of Brazil, Russia, India and China. Interestingly, there are no Hilton brand hotels going up in Russia or Brazil that I see listed for 2011 or the near future. India has seen several new Hilton Hotels in 2011.
