From August 17 through October 31, 2011 Marriott Rewards members can earn 1,200 Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards points for a $100 Marriott Gift Card purchase. A maximum 12,000 Rapid Rewards points may be earned with this offer.

Marriott Gift Card Terms and Conditions

Marriott Gift Cards, purchased in $100, $250 or $500 increments can be purchased per member allowing a maximum of 12,000 points to be awarded during promotional period. Shipping and handling fees apply.

Marriott Rewards members can redeem the Gift Card to earn up to 2 points per US dollar spent (on all qualifying charges) at participating: Marriott Hotels & Resorts, Renaissance Hotels & Resorts, JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts, Marriott Vacation Club International properties, but not at Ritz-Carlton; and 1 point per US dollar spent  room rate only) at Courtyard, Residence Inn, TownePlace Suites, SpringHill Suites, and Fairfield Inn® by Marriott properties worldwide. Gift Cards cannot be redeemed towards a vacation ownership purchase at Marriott Vacation Club International. Gift Cards can be redeemed towards rental stays at Marriott Vacation Club International properties.

The Marriott Gift Card can be used for all purchases and services charged to a Marriott guest room folio. If you are not a registered hotel guest and are planning to use this card at a spa, restaurant, retail store, or other outlet, please confirm in advance that the Marriott Gift Card is accepted. The Marriott Gift Card cannot be used to guarantee a room reservation, but may be used as payment at check-out. Gift Card purchases earning Rapid Rewards points are not eligible for return or refund.

Loyalty Traveler update:

These gift cards appear to earn 10% to 20% Marriott Rewards points when used for hotel stays as a reader in the comments section pointed out after I posted this offer.

    not really a good offer, because in T&C it says that when paying with these gift cards you only ear 1 or 2 marriott points instead of regular 10, if I remember it correctly.

    Aren’t we missing the value of the LUV points? Buy the gift cards with the Marriott rewards card + redemption marriott points + value of the LUV points. I assume the 12000 points are worth between $150 and $180 for a minimum 15% return just on the LUV portion.

    Assuming you get credit for the stays, if you are using them for the current promo of stay 2 nights get one free, the points earned on the stay are only minor value compared to the value of the free night.

    Please let me know if I am missing something.

    @Brandon – These are certainly a good deal for the the value of Southwest points.

    I think these are a good deal for Marriott loyalists who will use $1,000 in gift cards.
